Decide / Act // The Pulse
The quarterly cadence

The Pulse.

Ninety days after commitment, an async re-up. The Roster republishes. The cohort reads itself again. The heartbeat that keeps the network operating between conferences.

A convening that ends when the sessions end is a conference. One that carries commitments ninety days past the close is an operation.

It is async by design. Each operator updates their own Roster entry against the commitment they made. The update is short: a few lines, the evidence, the delta. The Roster republishes with the updates baked in. The cohort reads itself again.

/ CadenceFour beats per year.

The first Pulse closes the arc of the 2026 convening. Each subsequent Pulse is a checkpoint on the same record.

Pulse I · Oct 7 – 9, 2026

T + 90 days.

First re-up against the commitments made at the close of the July sessions. The Roster republishes in full.

Pulse II · Jan 2027

T + 180.

Second checkpoint. Pods report on pod-level commitments. New cohort window opens.

Pulse III · Apr 2027

T + 270.

Third checkpoint. Cross-cohort introductions begin as 2027 invitees join the Roster.

Pulse IV · Jul 2027

T + one year.

The year-mark. Full review of commitments made, met, revised, or retired. The convening opens again.

/ Two outcomesRe-up. Or be marked as didn't.

Every commitment resolves into one of two outcomes at Pulse. Both are public within the cohort. Neither is shameful.

Re-up.

Commitment met, in whole or in good part. Entry updates with evidence and a new 90-day commitment. The operator stays active on the Roster and in pod matching. Work compounds.

Marked as didn't.

Commitment not met, and no honest revision offered. The entry is annotated and de-prioritized in matching. The operator stays on the Roster but out of pod matching until the next Pulse, when they can re-enter with a fresh commitment and a short account of what happened.

/ ScopeInside the cohort.

The Pulse is a working rhythm internal to the cohort. The only outward-facing artifacts of Decide / Act are this page and Brandon's essay. Everything else stays in the Roster.

There is a separate subscribe list (the one below) for people outside the current cohort who want to be in range of future openings. It is infrequent. It does not quote the Roster.

Keep the record.

The Pulse is how a network moves from a room that met once to a cohort that keeps its own record.
